1871

Jack B. Yeats is born in London
Six months later, the Yeats family moves to Sligo to stay with Susan Yeats' parents
Jack's father, John Butler Yeats, stays in London attending art school

1879-86

Yeats family spends most summers in Sligo, at the age of seven Jack is left in the care of his grandparents

1887

Jack returns to London to attend art school

1888

The Yeats family moves to Bedford Park, a housing community for artists and writers
Jack sells his first drawing to the Vegetarian

1894

Jack marries Cottie and makes a home in Surrey, England
Jack is a regular illustrator for a number of journals including Punch and the Manchester Guardian

1895

Jack has his first exhibit of watercolors with the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin

1897

Jack moves to Devon, England where he sets up his miniature theatre
Exhibits a collection of Devon watercolor paintings

1899

Jack begins to paint more Irish subject matter in his watercolors

1900

Susan Yeats, Jack's mother dies
Jack continues to work on his miniature theatre, publishes James Flaunty and Esmerarlde Grande

1902-1903

Jack publishes A Broadsheet, precursor to A Broadside

1905

Jack travels throughout Galway and Mayo with writer, John M. Synge for the Manchester Guardian
Jack publishes his first illustrated children's book, The Bosun and the Bob-tailed Comet

1908

Lily Yeats establishes the Cuala Press, formerly the Dun Emer Press
Jack and Lily Yeats begin publishing A Broadside

1910

Jack and Cottie move back to Ireland permanently and settle in Wicklow

1915

Jack becomes a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy

1926

Jack provides his last drawing for A Broadside, wishing to concentrate on his painting
Jack's painting style becomes looser, with less defined lines and more color

1930s

Jack begins to focus more on writing, painting less often, publishing a number of novels and plays

1939

Jack's brother, William Butler Yeats dies

1940

Jack's last novel, The Careless Flower, is published in Dublin Magazine

1950

Yeats is awarded the French Legion of Honor

1957

Jack B. Yeats dies in Dublin at the age of 86

1996

Yeats' painting, A Farewell to Mayo, sells for £730,000 ($1.3 million) at auction
