Are We There Yet?

Peter Hulme and Tim Youngs, in their introduction to The Cambridge Companion to Travel Writing, describe travel literature "as a broad and ever-shifting genre, with a complex history" (10). There are many different forms of travel writing and as long as humans have been telling stories, they have been relating tales of travel both real and fantastic. This exhibit is not a comprehensive look at travel literature, but it does provide a brief overview. Please enjoy these selections from travel-related materials within the Special Collections of Falvey Memorial Library.

This exhibit was co-curated by Kayla Van Osten (Digital Library Intern, Spring 2016) and Laura Bang (Digital & Special Collections Curatorial Assistant), with graphics by Joanne Quinn.
